What Is ECO4?
The ECO4 scheme is a government initiative that helps landlords make energy-saving improvements to properties with low EPC ratings. It funds upgrades like insulation, heating systems, and renewables, helping reduce energy waste and support long-term property value. The scheme is now closing to new applications. The extension to 31 December 2026 is only to allow work that was already approved to be completed, so ECO4 is no longer open to new applications. If you are looking at funding now, the Warm Homes: Local Grant is the government’s current route for eligible households, and the Boiler Upgrade Scheme offers heat pump grants with no income test.
ECO4 supported properties where:
- It has an EPC rating of D, E, F or G
- Your tenants are on qualifying benefits or considered low-income
- The property is privately rented with the tenant’s permission.
